Ten students from the University of Bahri appeared before the criminal court at El Doroshab, against the backdrop of incidents at the university on Monday.
Government forces on Monday raided the Kadaro compound of Bahri University, using batons, metal bars, and tear gas to disperse a political gathering, arranged by the Darfur Students’ Association. A number of students were injured, and dozens were detained.
Lawyer Hibril Hassabo, a member of the defence team, told Radio Dabanga that the students were charged with ‘public nuisance’ and ‘jeopardising public safety’. The lawyer explained that the court has postponed looking into the case until 29 December.
Hassabo pointed out that the defendants were released on bail. Their names are: Ahmad Ibrahim, Abdalla Eisa, El Sadig Mohamed Dod, Nazar Khamis, Abdalla Omar Yagoub, Saleh Mohamed Suleiman, Abdel Moneim, Abu Bakr Hamid Mubarak, Mubarak Ismail Osman, and Sharafuldin Juma Saleh.
