Why is it O.K. for Arabs to Kill Their Own?

The Arab League has some real problems. There are the usual ones in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Mauritania, Somalia, Morocco (Western Sahara), Yemen; and the economic woes of Egypt, and Dubai to a lesser extent. For sure, the Arab League faces some serious PR issues.

‘Dozens of Israeli jets and drones attacked in Sudan’

TIME Magazine on Tuesday cites high-ranking Israeli security officials as saying that dozens of Israeli jets and unmanned drones took part in the January strike on a Gaza-bound weapons convoy in Sudan.

Obama’s Darfur envoy due in Sudan this week

KHARTOUM (AFP) - US President Barack Obama’s special envoy to Sudan, retired air force general Scott Gration, is to arrive this week on his first visit to the country, a diplomat said on Monday.
“Gration will arrive in the middle of the week on his first official visit” since Obama named him to the post earlier this month, the official said, adding that Gration will visit Khartoum, Darfur and south Sudan and leave on April 11.

Arab leaders back ‘wanted’ Bashir

Sudan’s president, U.N. chief clash over ICC during Arab summit

Sudan’s president, who is charged by an international court for war crimes, has slammed the U.N. Security Council and accused it of corruption. Speaking at an Arab League summit in Qatar, Omar al-Bashir criticized the Security Council for asking the International Criminal Court to launch an investigation into war crimes in Darfur.

Sudan angered by Arab League position on ICC’s Bashir warrant

March 28, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The foreign ministers of the 22-members Arab League appeared divided during their preparatory meeting today in the Qatari capital on the issue of the arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir issued earlier this month.

Report: Israel Used UAVs to Attack Missile Convoys in Sudan

(IsraelNN.com) The London Sunday Times reported that the Israeli Air Force used Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) to carry out strikes on three Sudanese convoys carrying Iranian missiles destined for Hamas in Gaza. Sources also said that the convoys carried Fajr-3 missiles which have a range of 43 kilometers, capable of reaching Yavneh and Be’er Sheva.

HRW urges Arabs to press Sudan on aid groups

DUBAI (AFP) – Arab leaders meeting in Doha for an annual summit should urge Sudan to allow humanitarian aid groups to resume their work in conflict-torn Darfur, Human Rights Watch said on Sunday.

“The League of Arab States could help save thousands of lives by pressing Khartoum to reverse the expulsions,” said Richard Dicker, director of Human Rights Watch?s International Justice Program in a statement.

League of Arab States/Sudan: Humanitarian assistance must not be made hostage to arrest warrant against President al-Bashir

On the eve of the Summit of the League of Arab States (LAS) in Qatar, Amnesty International called on member states to enforce the arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir who is expected in Qatar on Sunday. Amnesty International also urged the LAS to ask the Sudanese government to allow immediate access for humanitarian organizations to Darfur.

Egyptian president warned Sudan’s Bashir on arms smuggling to Gaza: report

March 27, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak personally warned his Sudanese counterpart Omer Hassan Al-Bashir this week on the growing trend of arm smuggling from Sudan, US officials told the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) today.

March 25, 2009 (EL FASHER) – After being ambushed and beaten on Saturday about 100 kilometres southwest of El Geneina, an aid worker was shot and killed Monday night by two armed men outside his residence in Kango Haraza, West Darfur.
