Introduction:

As it has appeared in the communiqué of Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Sudan’s unity is now under serious threat.  This is a result of injustice perpetrated by a small group of autocratic rulers.  There is however a glimpse of hope to avert this imminent crisis and move towards a comprehensive solution of Sudan’s impasse.  As envisaged, this can take place through a comprehensive congress that encourages free and honest debate, under the slogan “Be just: That is Next to Piety” (Koran, Almaaida, Verse 8).

Using statistical evidence, we will proceed to expose injustice in the Sudan, particularly during the current reign of “the Government of National Salvation”. We will show how different regions of the country have been made to endure mal-distribution of power, wealth, services and development opportunities.

Information contained in our statistics is drawn from various sources including government official and strategic reports, presidential Decrees and Chambers of Sudan Civil Service.

For simplicity of information presentation, we have opted to revert to older division of Sudan into Regions.  The following terms are hence used:

1. Central Region: Gezira, Blue Nile, Sinnar and White Nile States.

2. Darfur Region: North and South Darfur States

3. Southern Region:

a) –Old- Equatorial Region: Bahr Aljabal, East and West Equatorial States,

b) Ex- Bahr Alghazal Region: Buhairat, Warab, East and West Bahr Alghazal and

c) Upper Nile Region: Jungole, Unity and Upper Nile States.

4- Khartoum Region: National Capital Khartoum

5. Kordofan Region: North and South Kordofan States

6. Easter Region: Consists of Red Sea State, Gadharif and Kasala States

7. Northern Region: The River Nile State and the Northern State.
